Many people have contributed to this site, and not all are mentioned by name below. We deeply appreciate their assistance, and offer our sincere apology to anyone who was inadvertently left out of these credits.
The idea for this site was originally conceived by Orca Starbuck who put together a proposal for a CFA Web site and submitted it to the CFA Central Office in the fall of 1994. JoAnn Miksa contacted her and submitted a slightly redone version of the proposal, as part of a larger CFA PR proposal, to CFA Board members at the 1994 International Show.
Several forward thinking individuals saw the proposal and valiantly promoted the idea in CFA; notable among them were Dick Kallmeyer and Karen Lawrence. At the 1995 Annual Meeting, Dick Kallmeyer obtained approval for a CFA Web Page Committee and was named as its chair.
From July to October 1995, the CFA Web Page Committee gathered the materials for the site, refined the wording of documents and put together a rough architecture for the site. During that period the committee members included (in alphabetical order):
-
Bob Agresta
-
Linda Gorsuch
-
Dick Kallmeyer (chair)
-
Karen Lawrence
-
Linda Pollack-Mercer
-
Norma Placchi
-
Orca Starbuck
-
Larry Taylor
During the planning stages, temporary server space for this site was contributed by the MIT Artificial Intelligence Laboratory as part of the server space used for the Cat Fanciers Mailing List web site.
The resulting rough version of the site was presented at the CFA Board Meeting in October 1995 by Dick Kallmeyer with computer hardware provided by Bob Agresta. The presentation was a success, and approval was granted for the site to go on-line.
A cosmetic and architectural redesign of the site was carried out by Orca Starbuck with Jean Marie Diaz; Karen Lawrence contributed additional images and editorial work. The redesigned site was presented at the November 1995 CFA International Show by the CFA Web Page Committee, with technical support and computer hardware provided by Jean Marie Diaz.
For the final version of the site, domain name services, server space and site maintenance were provided by Smith Renaud Inc. from November 1995 to December 1997. Our sincere thanks to them for their generosity in donating the server space during that time period.
