CFA MENTOR PROGRAM NEWSLETTER
Volume Two, Number Three
April 2004

Hello CFA Mentors! Because so many e-mail services have been either stripping off the CFA Mentor Program Newsletter attachment or rejecting e-mails with attachments out-of-hand, we have changed the distribution of the newsletter. As of April 2004, Karen Lawrence will be posting the newsletter on the CFA Mentor Program web pages. Then, Pat Jacobberger will inform all of you as to the http. If you have any recommendations for how to make this communication tool more helpful or more user friendly, please feel free to contact Pat with your suggestions (Voyageur@mn.rr.com). ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Updates a.. As of today, 4/18/2004, there are over 114 mentors and 149 protégés registered with the Mentor Program! Currently, there are 80 pairings and several more under consideration. Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to help someone new to CFA and the world of pedigreed cats. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- b.. We Continue to Need Your Help There are increasingly more and more people interested in guidance and assistance. Many of you have "stepped up to the plate" and for that we are certainly thankful! If you are interested and have the time and energy, feel free to volunteer to take more than one protégé! We realize that protégé availability and your available time may not be aligned and that this may be a difficult if not impossible time for some to take on one let alone two or three. But if you can help just one person, it will be all the better for CFA and the Mentor Program. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- c.. New Mentor Program Coordinator Hard at Work! Mandi Wooldridge is doing a super job keeping up with all the incoming applications. However, she has had a computer problem over the past two weeks. If, as you read through this newsletter, you find a discrepancy, please report it to either Mandi (Mandridge@aol.com) or Pat (Voyageur@mn.rr.com). -------------------------------------------------------------------------- d.. MENTOR PROGRAM DINNER SCHEDULED - Mark your calendars and send in your reservations!! All information can be located at http://www.cfa.org/exhibitors/annual/agenda.html. We are limiting the seating to 60 and reservations must be received by June 14, 2004. In addition to a mouth-watering menu (which, by the way is worth WAY more than the $20.00 reservation fee), we are planning a wonderful program. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- e.. PHOTOS NEEDED - Pat Jacobberger need photos of Mentors with their Protégés for her report to the CFA delegates at the 2004 CFA Annual Meeting. Please be assured that the photos will be used in the most respectful of ways. We want to show the delegates what you are all doing, so photos of you at shows, bathing cats or working together with your protégés in the many ways you do will be appreciated. Please send them to Pat either by e-mail to Voyageur@mn.rr.com or to 2701 Overlook Drive, Bloomington, MN 55431 by May 15, 2004. Thank you! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- f.. MENTOR PROGRAM MATERIALS - The Mentor Program Manual and the articles contained therein, will soon be available through a subscription service for both Mentors and Protégés. Due to a hold-up in getting the articles approved by the Hartz Mountain Corporation, subscriptions will not start until June or July 1 2004. More in the May Newsletter and on the CFA website. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- g.. GETTING STARTED - Now available on the CFA Mentor Program website at http://www.cfa.org/mentor/ppt/slide1.html is a slide show that should help prepare Mentors for mentoring. Please review it and let me know what else you would like to see. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- h.. NEW!! CFA AMBASSADORS' PROGRAM to Start in June 2004! In response to the growing need for people to interact with the public at CFA shows, the CFA Mentor Program and the CFA Marketing Program have joined forces in an attempt to fill a need. Beginning June 19-20 at the Capital Cat Fanciers' Show, the program will begin. Look in your Almanacs and on the CFA website for further details and information. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- i.. Have you joined the two official CFA e-mail lists devoted to Mentors and Protégés? As a mentor, you can join both of these lists. The CFAMentoring E-Mail List is a great place for asking and answering those "newbie" questions that don't seem to fit on other lists. So far, the CFAMentoring List has addressed things such as show cage sizes from region to region (so you can make those cage drapes fit it all!), secrets for keeping litter boxes clean and fresh, questions about shows (entering, knowing where to go when your number is called, how to check your catalog, etc.), what's the difference between flat ribbons and rosettes, carpet deodorizing, vaccination programs, birthing of kittens and more. If you wish to join us on the CFAMentoring List, please use the following link: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/CFAMentoring/join The CFAMentor List is a list for mentors only. This is the place where you can talk with other mentors regarding ideas for working with protégés, issues in the mentor/protégé relationship, etc. Most of you have received an invitation to join this list but, if you have not, please let Pat Jacobberger know on an individual basis. Membership is by invitation only and is restricted to mentors who are registered in the CFA Mentor Program. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- j.. NOTE: There has been a change in the internet address for the CFA Mentor Program Web Page. The new address is http://www.cfa.org/mentor/index.html. Bookmark it and visit it frequently for updates and information of upcoming CFA Mentor Program events. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- k.. Applications for mentors and protégés are now available on the Mentor Program web page. Please refer people who you identify as potential mentors or protégés to the site and encourage them to complete an application. Also, if you are already working with a new-comer and you wish to register as an existing pairing, there is an application for that as well. Mentor/Protégé Pairing Opportunities The following is a list of individuals who have requested a Mentor through the CFA Mentor Program. We have listed them by breed in this issue to help you find your specific breed. Keep in mind that you need not be working in the protégé's breed of interest in order to provide valuable assistance and guidance. You may be the mentor who can connect a protégé up with a mentor in their breed. As before, the name of each individual is listed along with some pertinent information related to their request. If you identify an individual who you wish to mentor, please e-mail Mandi Wooldridge privately at Mandridge@aol.com and she will put you in contact with that person. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ABYSSINIANS 1..
